What's your Jericho?
What’s your Jericho?
As I was reading this story in Joshua , I was reflecting on WHY God had Joshua lead the people in doing something so simple to win a war; an act that even in those days seemed silly and puzzling… (don’t even get me started on the stories of modern day marches … I’m sure some of you have some whopper stories of doing this. This is NOT where I’m going with this ).
40 years before this account, God told the Israelites to go into Canaan and take possession of it BY FAITH. Except when the men who went in to check out the land came back with a report of giants, reason took over and faith was set aside. God promised to GIVE them the land IF they believed Him and put action to it by going in there and taking possession. Nope! They REASONED the faith right out of their hearts and unbelief won that war. The battlefield of the heart in believing God was lost .
40 years later, all of those faithless men were dead and new sons were given the same promise and command.
Joshua was one of 2 men who HAD believed God and were still alive. Joshua was given the opportunity to put His belief in God to action again!
Yet, the impossibility still loomed before them… probably far greater than before after 40 years.
Still, God’s promise stood.
God could easily have sent angels to tear down that wall without a single action on Joshua’s part. But He didn’t. ( He never does).
He asked Joshua to believe him, put action behind that belief ( faith)… the marching was THIER act of faith… steadfast in thier belief that God would come through on His end. He did.
Faith is the victory.
The same is true today- but even better! As a New Covenant believer, we’ve got 24/7 back up. The Holy Spirit- God himself, is there to back you up.
All that’s required is that you believe His promise ,and like Joshua, YOU have to step out (faith) and then HE backs you up… (actually, He backs His promises up. )
He cannot fail because He never says anything He doesn’t mean.
So what’s your Jericho?
Depression?
*Resist the devil ( lying voices of doubt and accusation) and he will go. God said it had to, so tell it to go. God will back you up.
Sickness?
*Did Jesus not take those stripes 2000 years ago? Tell the sickness to go. It doesn’t belong.
Oppression?
* “He has borne our grief and carried our sorrow …” Isaiah 53:4 He bore oppression so you wouldn’t have to.
Etc.
Believe Him.
Yes.
He’s THAT trustworthy.
