Good Friday

Luke 23:44 “ It was now about the sixth hour, and a darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.”

Creation was in mourning.

The tragedy of the Creator dying for creation shook the core of earth.

John 19:30 “ It is finished.”

Matthew 27:50-51 “ Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom.”

Twice, while He was on the earth, He’d heard His Father declare “this is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” When only before, mankind lived only to please himself, the Son of God lived to do His Fathers will.

As one circumcised into the Abrahamic covenant, Jesus was one of Israel’s own. And yet he died to fulfill the Covenant of Law. It pleased God that His Son should die for sin.

From then on, there would be:

No more scapegoat to bear Israel’s sins away.

No more Holy of Holies in Israel’s temple.

No more commandments of law.

No more animal sacrifice.

No more circumcision of the flesh.

No more priesthood.

Jesus finished what man was unable to do.

His heart was broken that day, as he, the Son of Man, was made sin for us... to exchange places with us.

The requirements of the law for righteousness were fulfilled and finished in Him.

No more “law of sin and death” to worship and love. (Rom 8:2)...

The earth mourned... it knew! But man’s ears did not hear or understand. They loved the law too much.

“It is finished!” And He drew his final breath...

(The moment Jesus became sin, His Spirit died.)

The Old Covenant died that moment.

A New Covenant was born (but could not function yet...)

And all creation held it breath....
What happened for the 3 days after Jesus was crucified? The earth may have been silent, but not so in Hades and the Heavens!

Having born every sickness, oppression and the sin of the world, a man so disfigured he was unrecognizable, went down to Hades to take back the keys of authority mankind had abdicated at the garden.

Having been made in Gods likeness, when Adam and Eve chose to believe the Serpent’s word above God’s, they now became like the serpent... a sin nature was born and from that point on, they would try to be like God apart from God.

Relationship with God was over. Their command of ruling and having dominion was at an end... now sin, death, sickness and oppression reigned.

But Jesus was taking it back for us...

Heaven was about to have a party!

Rev 1:18 “ I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.”

Psalm 24:7-10

“Lift up your heads, O you gates!

And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!

And the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory?

The Lord strong and mighty,

The Lord mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O you gates!

Lift up, you everlasting doors!

And the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory?

The Lord of hosts,

He is the King of glory.”
