Know: Read Philippians 2:9-11
Note: Read slowly, carefully marking keywords.
exalted, name, Jesus, heaven, earth, under the earth, confess
Observation:
Who’s name is exalted?
How is it exalted?
What does it mean to confess Christ?
What: What is your confession?
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11
Before Jesus came to earth, He was at work in all of creation, but the world failed to see Him.
Jesus was there all along when the universe was created. He was the ram provided in the thicket when Abraham offered his son as a sacrifice. Jesus was the one who split the Red Sea. He was the Passover lamb in Leviticus. The High priest in Numbers, the rock that brought forth water in Deuteronomy. He was commander of the Lord’s army in Judges. Jesus is on every page of the New Testament to Malachi, which ends with giving; Jesus is the Lamb of God who gave His life so that we would be reconciled to sonship.
God’s name was revealed to Moses in a burning thicket: YHWH, the holiest name of God, consists of four letters: Yod, Hei, Vav, Hei, which means lamb, behold, hand, behold. The very name of God points to the name of Jesus.
The name of Jesus is exalted above every name, and in His name, every knee should bow. Heaven responds to the name of Jesus, and everything below and on earth submits to the name of Jesus.
Hebrews tells us that Jesus inherited a more excellent name than any angelic being. “having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they (angels).” (Hebrews 1:4)
He is the heir of all things, the express image of God.
When Paul wrote to the Ephesian church, he wanted to understand something about Jesus that they would only be able to see with their spiritual eyes.
“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” Ephesians 1:17-23
God gave His Son the Name to which every being in the kosmos must bow and confess His lordship. God also placed Him at His own right hand and made Him head over all things.
For what purpose?
He did it for the benefit of the church. He did it to give us the rights as sons and daughters to use the name of the Son and the power it invokes. Heaven, earth, and hell recognize what Jesus did. All that Jesus did, all the authority, all power, and all His word are in His Name. His name on our lips works the same way it did when he was raised to life.
God has delivered us from the power and authority of darkness. We have been delivered from the tyrant that held us in bondage, and we are translated into the Kingdom of Jesus.
So why does the devil still seem to rule the world?
He is the reason sickness, oppression, demons, and sickness exist in this world.
Believers often do not know what belongs to them, and they do not know the authority of Jesus’ Name.
If you were stopped by a police officer and told to get out of your car, you would obey immediately if you had any sense. The police officer evokes the authority that his badge gives him. He is backed up by the law, and his badge is proof. This is how authority works.
Jesus dethroned the principalities and rulers that held the world in captivity at the cross. When Jesus sat down at the right hand of God, He did so because His work was finished. He then sent us His Spirit to indwell within us with all His power to help us. He has made us co-heirs with Him. Therefore, when we use His name, knowing its weight and power, we can drive out the forces of darkness operating illegally.
There is authority in the name of Jesus. “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.” (Rev 1:18)
The one with the keys is an “authorized” one. Jesus declared that He has all authority. Before he ascended, Jesus said that all authority had been given to him (Matt 28:18), and then he immediately delegated His authority on earth to the church. “In my name…”
Jesus gave us His name and the authority that backs it up. Signs follow those who use the authority of His name.
We are saved from the dominion of darkness, forgiven and set free, and given a completely new nature by the power behind the name of Jesus.
The power of the cross is that Jesus died as us, was buried as us, and was resurrected as us. When you were saved, your old nature died and was buried with Jesus. His resurrection is your resurrection—you became Born Again, a New creation. The old is dead, and the new is Jesus’ Spirit alive in you. All of heaven is backing you up, but you must know what you have.
What good is it to use Jesus's name without knowing its power? It's like using a good-luck charm—it will not work if you don’t know that all humanity on heaven and earth must bow their knee to Him.
The name of Jesus touches every part of a believer's life. Because of His name, we have full and unhindered access to heaven. The power behind His name is accessed in the Spirit. When we surrender to the Spirit, we understand Heaven's language, allowing us to see through God’s lens. We enjoy friendship with God in the spirit. The Spirit searches the heart of God and can know His heart toward yourself and those around you.
“But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined,
what God has prepared for those who love him”— these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-11
Under the covenant of the law given through Moses, when one needed God to move on thier behalf, one would go to God on behalf of the person, asking Him to heal or to help them.
After the cross, out from under the law, one no longer needs to ask God to do what Jesus has already done. He dethroned the dominion of darkness and gave mankind back the authority they lost after the fall in the garden. Mankind now has the authority to enforce His victory. We have his name as our guarantee. By His name, we have victory, salvation, healing, freedom, intimacy with God, sonship, power, and access to heaven.
“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” (John 14:13)
When the devil imposes oppression, sickness, or bondage on someone, we have the right and responsibility to set them free. We have the right to say to sickness, “Go! In the name of Jesus!” having confidence in the backing of his name. The devil will not always want to move, but we have a greater God!
The moment we confess Jesus, His faithfulness to forgive is faster than our confession. When we confess that Jesus is our healer, deliverer, helper, etc., his faithfulness to His name is faster than our confession.
In the same way you confessed Jesus as your savior, we confess Him in all He gave us. If we say we have devils, we are not confessing Christ. If we confess that we are sick, poor, and mean, we are not confessing Christ.
To confess Christ is to confess what He has said about you. We never believe beyond our confession.
Jesus is your healer; Make Him your confession.
Jesus is your righteousness; Make His righteousness your confession.
Jesus is your helper: Make His help your confession.
Jesus Immanuel, God is with us.
He is Alpha and Omega, He started the work, He will complete it.
He is the Lamb of God who took away the sin of the world. You are a New Creation!
He is your Great High Priest; he has brought you into the Holy of Holies and given you access to the Throne room of Grace.
He is Christ, the anointed One.
Learn the backing behind his name and use it!
